Researcher of the Institute of Philosophy of the NAS of Belarus Nadzeya Ilyushenka made the presentation “Double Burden: Transformation of the Social Role of Women in the 20-40-S of the 20th Century” at the meeting of the Intellectual Club “Women in Philosophy” on June 20, 2018.
She considered the problem of transformation of the social role of women in the context of formation of the phenomenon of double burden in the early Soviet history. She paid particular attention to specifics of formation and consolidation of the double load as a social norm not only of Soviet society, but also of modern one. She also presented the analysis of positive and negative consequences of the state policy of women’s emancipation. The presentation was accompanied by demonstration of Soviet posters of the 20-40-s of the 20th century that illustrate the direction of state policy in relation to women’s work and the social role of women, and their interpretation. The report caused a lively response from the audience. Discussion included the issues of gender equality in Soviet ideology, relationship between the level of economic development of society and the possibilities of gender emancipation, understanding the problem of double load in the works of modern researchers, and so on.
