The railway station in Minsk

The railway station in Minsk. The erection of a new railway station building in Minsk (architects V. Kramarenko, M.Vinogradov, 2000) is solving the problem of creating a new image symbol of the entrance gates of the city, the organization of transport and pedestrian flows with the formation of North and South railway station squares, linked by pedestrian tunnels. The building was constructed in the place of the old station building, built in 1940 (architect L. Rechanik) and demolished in 1991. The dominant feature of the new building, which has a linear track, is a five-storey main body with two underground floors, the axis of the symmetry of which is accentuated by a semi-cylindrical rizalit with a solid surface glazing, completed by a pyramid-shaped dome made of glass. In the interiors multi-level spaces with lanterns, open metal structures and complex plastic outdoor galleries of staircases and escalators have been created. From the central volume the wings of the station diverge in the two sides, a composition of which is built on the principle of cantilever overhanging of upper floors. In the interiors premises of cash lobbies, waiting rooms, reference services, cafes, trading enterprises are adjoined to the longitudinal passages, lit by lantern of the upper light.
