Grodno Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross (formerly Bernard)
 
Grodno Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross (formerly Bernard) is a monument of architecture of the16-18th centuries. It was founded in 1595 by the order of King Sigismund III Vasa, it was built in brick in the years 1602-1618 in the historical centre of Grodno. It is a three-apse basilica with elongated presbytery and tower free main facade. The architecture of the altar has features of Gothic and Renaissance, the main facade is resolved in two layers with pilasters of classic order and rudiments of the vaults in the style of the early Baroque. On the south side a strong four-storey tower, the lower tier of which is the entrance to the monastery complex with a rectangular yard-Cloitre, is adjacent to it. The upper tiers of the tower were rebuilt in 1738 in the style of late (Vilna) Baroque (architect L. Grintsevich). Inside the aisles are blocked by cross vaults. In the interior (17-18 centuries) carving, stucco moulding, mural painting (mono-and polychrome), sculpture are widely used. In the niches of the arcature frieze on the southern wall of the central nave the 12 apostles, are depicted, on the northern wall you can see 12 historical figures of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Rech Pospolita. In the composition of 14 altars elements of the Corinthian order were used. The bas-relief stucco decoration of Loretto Chapel (18th century) in the narthex of the church is of particular artistic value.
The monastery was abolished in 1853. The church operates. It is a historical and cultural value of national importance.
