Significant increase of EU-Belarus cooperation at the political level, first of all, an invitation of the Republic of Belarus to participate in the program of Eastern Partnership of the European Union, has provided new opportunities for the formation of stable mechanisms for collaboration and favorable social and economic preconditions for strategic partnership. Since 2000 Belarusian export to the EU countries has increased by more than 20 times, EU accounts for 44% of Belarusian export (for comparison: Russia accounts 32%).

The community of approaches to assessing the role of science in the process of national development, as well as the recognized high level of Belarusian scientific and technological developments allow the Republic of Belarus and the countries of EU to form the conditions for effective support and joint implementation of scientific researches of the most pressing problems for society. Currently the European Union continues to provide financial support for scientific and technical projects with the participation of Belarusian organizations and scientists, the projects are being realized on the basis of bilateral financing, partner organizations show initiatives to perfect the mechanisms of implementation in the real sector of the economy the joint project results, to provide protection of the rights of intellectual property as well as commercialization of joint scientific elaborations.
