The House of Government of the Republic of Belarus

The House of Government of the Republic of Belarus. It was built in 1930-1934 on the project of I. Langbard. The concept of the building stipulated the creation of an urban ensemble, linking the main axis of the city with Station square and meant for holding parades and demonstrations. Symmetrical tier composition of the building is built on a dynamic comparison of volumes of different height with a dominant central nine-storey part, forming in the centre of the square. In the stylish solution the features of constructivism and neo-Deco are combined. The replacement of the designed to stand in front of the building gallery-platform, connecting the side wings for the statue of Lenin, strengthening the centre of the composition reinforces the structural perfection of the ensemble. The rear facade of the central volume is adjacent to the main volume of the courtroom of the Supreme Council, it is covered with a hemispherical dome on a drum. The strict rhythm of vertical blades is used in the solution of the facades, emphasizing the dynamics of the general construction. The idea of synthesis of the arts implemented in the interiors of the Government House reflects the typical period of a tendency to monumentality and synthetics of architectural ensembles. The works of monumental art, installed in the interior, develop the revolutionary historical theme -the reliefs of the conference room and foyer (sculptors A. Bembel, R. Izmailov, B. Ritter, leaders M. Manizer, I. Langbard), paintings of the halls, a lobby, a hall, a conference room (M.Lebedeva, I. Frank, leader I. Brodsky), sculptural portraits (sculptors M. Kerzin, Z. Azgur, A. Glebov, A. Orlov, R. Izmailov). The compositional dominant of the ensemble is a monument to Lenin (sculpture M. Manizer), which has formed a unified architectural and artistic whole with the building.
