Murovankovskaya church-fortress

Murovankovskaya church-fortress is a monument of Belarusian Gothic with Renaissance elements (it was earlier known in science by name Malomozheykovskaya). It was built as an Orthodox temple between 1516 and 1542 in the village of Murovanka (Schuchin district), probably on the means of the Prince Vasily Polubensky. It is built of striated brick in the technique of Gothic laying. It is consecrated in honor of the Mother of God birth. It is three-naved four-pillared temple of the hall type with one semicircular altar apse. The main volume (in the plan like a square) is covered with high roof with frontons and flanked in the corners by 4 round towers, covered with cone-shaped hipped roof. Walls, towers and fronton are decorated with 2 tiers of planed arched bays. In the middle of the 17th century in the period of Russian-Poland war the church was greatly damaged, then it was reconstructed, then in 1706 it was shelled and was ruined until the beginning of the 19th century. In 1817 it was restored, the top of fronton was changed a little and totally it was reconstructed in 1871-72 with important changes at the entry zone: a vestibule and new tier of western towers were built. Nowadays it is in the process of restoration. It is a historical and cultural value of republican importance. ]
