Ishkold Trinity Catholic church

Ishkold Trinity Catholic church is the monument of architecture of Belarusian Gothic. It is erected in 1471 (the day of consecration) on the donations of Nickolay Nemirovich in the village of Ishkold (Baranovichi district) as a catholic parish temple. It is a three-naved four-pillared temple of the hall type (26,4x 13,5m) with tick five-planed apse of presbytery covered with a rib stellar vault. Aisles of the main volume are much narrower than central. Both volumes are covered with high wedge-like dual-slope roofs with hips under an apse. At the northern side a rectangular is fixed to an apse. At the joint with the main volume a small tower is situated with a plan in quarter of the circle, inside of which there are spiral stairs leading to the hiding place and to the attic. The walls are fortified by stepped buttresses of plastic contour (on the side elevation buttresses are partly trimmed later). Window opening decorative bays are of half-circled form, doorway on the principal front has lancet end, and on the southern side elevation –bow-shaped end. Originally open laying of walls in the lower part was adorned with cellular diamond-shaped ornament made of baked brick; later the walls were plastered and whitened. Special architectural expressiveness is achieved by architectural decision of the principal front, ended with high stepped fronton with stepped contour. According to the data of the property schedule of 1782, the walls in the interior (till 1537) were decorated with frescos with images of saints and geometrical and vegetarian ornament. In the second half of the 16th century by order of Nikolay Radzivill Chorny the temple was transformed into Genevan cathedral and in 1641 was returned by catholics. During Russian and Poland war of the 17th century it was seriously defeated. In 1868-1918- Orthodox Church , in 1918-1969 – again Catholic Church, later it was closed. In the 1980s it was restored. Nowadays it functions according to its initial destination. It is a historical and cultural value of republican significance.
