Main - - Culture - Pokrova (Protection )   Pokrova (Protection ),celebrated on October 1/14 is a holiday which actually falls on the middle of autumn and in Eastern calendar it marks the transition to winter: "Pakrovy - hide cows to the cowhouse". On Pokrova the land must be covered either with leaves or snow. People tried to predict the nature of the coming winter from the state of the weather on this day.
