International cooperation in the sphere of higher education, science and culture is being realized in the framework of international treaties of BSU with foreign scientific and educational establishments and organizations.
The existence of a contract allows us to organize the relationship with a foreign partner in joint activities, provides a basis for deepening and expanding the forms and directions of cooperation, delimits the powers and responsibilities of the parties. Today, BSU is collaborating with more than 180 foreign institutions and organizations from more than 50 countries.
As a result of the year 2006, BSU disposed contracts and agreements on cooperation in the sphere of science and education with 35 foreign educational and research institutions and organizations from 32 countries and 2 All-European organizations (the European Commission and the NATO Science Committee). Among the partners of BSU – the universities and research centers in Russia, Germany, Poland, France, Italy, Spain, USA, China, Korea, etc. The cooperation is carried out in many scientific fields, among them – the participation in major international projects implemented in the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (Geneva, Switzerland). BSU units and individual researchers were involved in the implementation of 63 projects of the international programs, funds and grants.
The opportunity to study abroad for university students is being realized through academic exchanges within the framework of agreements on cooperation between Belarusian State University and foreign universities. Such academic exchanges include:
• training in the partner universities for one or two semesters at the main or a related specialty;
• short-term exchanges of groups of students for study and introductory practices;
• scientific training.
Currently, student exchange programs are carried out with the universities of the European Union: Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Holland, Sweden and Italy.
Especially close cooperation is carried out with the universities in Germany. So, the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (FSU) and the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) allocate annual grants for BSU students who have successfully passed the contest. Mathematics faculties of BSU together with the universities in Magdeburg and Mannheim take part in the German training programs for students. Faculty of Economics carries out exchanges for students with the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. Scientific and educational cooperation with the University of Leipzig is being developed.
Humanitarian faculties of BSU actively cooperate with the universities of Poland. Here, the partners are the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Warsaw and Lodz Universities, Pultusk Academy of Humanities named after A. Geyshtor. Students-philologists have an opportunity to be involved in the training in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
Since 2007, the University is included into the academic mobility program Erasmus Mundus «External Cooperation Window», in the framework of which students, undergraduates and graduate students of BSU can study or continue their studies at universities, that form a part of the consortium of European universities (Spain, Germany, France, Italy , the Netherlands, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Lithuania).
