Большой исторический атлас Беларуси в трех томах. Государственный комитет по имуществу Республики Беларусь; редкол.: Г. И. Кузнецов (старш.) и [и др.]. – Минск: Белкартография, 2009 – 245 с.
The Big Historical Atlas of Belarus in three volumes is the first original cartographic in the Republic of Belarus dedicated to the historical past of our country. The maps included in the atlas provide an overview of the history not only of Belarus but of the whole East-European region. Besides, the atlas includes large-scale maps of separate territories, town plans, battle maps. This atlas is addressed to everyone who is involved in research activity or in teaching history of our country or to those just interested in the past of our Motherland.
The first volume covers the earliest periods – from the most ancient traces of the primitive man to the middle of the XVI century. Chronologically it is limited by a specific date – year 1569, when as a result of the Union of Lublin the Belarusian Lands became part of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. That was the period when conditions for the shaping of the Belarusian nation formed. Events, which had appeared to be the most important for formation of the present-day territory of Belarus, became the basis for creation of the maps.
The results accumulated by our scientists and specialists during years of work on The National atlas of Belarus, six-volume Encyclopedia of the History of Belarus, two-volume encyclopedia The Great Duchy of Lithuania, monographic historical research work in history were used in the course of the work on the atlas. The authors also took into account the experience of scientific from the neighboring countries: Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Russia and the Ukraine.
