The first volume of the six-volume edition of the “History of philosophical and social and political thought of Belarus" covers the main periods of the domestic intellectual history of the Middle Ages. Much attention is paid to the questions of methodology of the historical and philosophical studies; the basic components of pre-philosophical (mythical) world-view of ancestors of the Belarusians are restored; Byzantine, South Slavic and West European sources of the domestic philosophical heritage, as well as the body of written records of Polotsk, Smolensk, and Turovsk lands are analyzed.
